The data is based on monthly mean air temperature records from 824 national standard and basic surface meteorological stations in China for January to December 1998. After strict quality control and data screening, spatial interpolation was conducted using the Thin Plate Spline (TPS) method in ANUSPLIN software, with the 1 km-resolution national topographic DEM (Digital Elevation Model) as the covariate, generating monthly grid datasets with a horizontal resolution of 1 km × 1 km for each month from January to December 1998. All data are stored as int16 format for efficient storage, with the unit of 0.1℃. Each annual dataset contains 12 data files, which are named by combining the year and month; for example, the file named 19981 corresponds to the data for January 1998. The geographic scope of this dataset covers the main land areas of China (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions), excluding areas such as the South China Sea islands and reefs.
