The field experiment was conducted to examine which specific taxa are stimulated by woody amendments at the study base of Ningxia Forestry Institute, located in the Yinchuan Belly Desert (106°08′~107°22′E, 38°28′~38°42′N), which surrounds the Yellow River in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, China.The native landscape was historically grassland steppe, but became desertified after more than a millennium of agricultural activities. The field experiment was a randomized split plot design with (1) tillage followed by irrigation (_Ir), and (2) tillage followed by no irrigation as the main plots, and four different soil amendment treatments, each with five replicates as subplots within each block.
