Genotyping by Sequencing of Iberian Margaritifera margaritifera populations

We used Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) to infer the population structure and genetic diversity of the highly threatened freshwater pearl mussel Margaritifera margaritifera in the Iberian Peninsula. The main goal of the study is to identify genetic conservation units. Knowledge about the genetic structure and diversity is necessary before planning recovery plans that may involve relocation or restocking, especially in highly threatened species, as the one targeted in this study.
