Pb18 yeast cells were seeded in a 6-well culture plate subjected to a 24-h period of starvation with F12 medium and treated with different concentrations of H2O2 (A) or nitrite (B) at pH 5.6 for 5 h at 37°C. Treated cells were plated in BHI and incubated at 37°C for 7–10 days (n = 6 at each point). The graph shows the means ± SD of total CFU before and after treatment with H2O2 or nitrite for each concentration. Statistically significant samples are indicated (p<0.05). The results are representative of three independent experiments.
