Spill sections are sections in flowing waters where, due to hydropower use, unnaturally rapid changes in the flow rate occur. At times of higher electricity demand more water is processed here in the power plant, the outflow from the power plant and thus in the section below the power plant is usually higher than the inflow into the storage space. The water level in the storage space drops, in the distance below there is a spill. At times of lower power consumption, the ratios are exactly the opposite, one speaks of the Sunk. This so-called swelling operation, depending on the size (shwall-sunk ratio) and the speed and frequency of the flow change, has more or less negative effects on the ecological state of the flowing water. The data level corresponds to the National Water Management Plan (NGP) 2015 and will be updated after the publication of the NGP 2021.
