ASCII: All Sky observations of Galactic CII
收藏资源简介:
The Milky Way and other galaxies require a significant source of ongoing star formation fuel to explain their star formation histories. A new ubiquitous population of discrete, cold clouds have recently been discovered at the diskhalo interface of our Galaxy that could potentially provide this source of fuel.We propose to observe a small sample of these diskhalo clouds with HIFI to determine if the level of CII emission detected suggests they represent the cooling of warm clouds at the interface between the star forming disk and halo. These cooling clouds are predicted by simulations of warm clouds moving into the diskhalo interface region. We target 5 clouds in this proposal for which we have high resolution HI maps and can observe the densest core of the cloud. The results of our observations will also be used to interpret the surprisingly high detections of CII for low HI column density clouds in the Galactic Plane by the GOT C+ Key Program by extending the clouds probed to high latitude environments. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
