重力波云是自然界罕见的自然现象,与极光、赤潮、旋转火焰、冰圈、雷暴、乳状云、冰锥群等合称罕见的九大自然现象。是由于上升气流延伸至山脉,或者伴随着雷电交加的暴风雨而产生的波浪状的重力波云层。上升气流使空中气涡发生改变,云的流体学特征也随之改变,当这种作用频繁的发生,不同的变化在一个梯度上积累,形成可见的振荡的重力波云。
Gravity wave clouds are a rare natural phenomenon on Earth, and are classified among the nine rarest natural phenomena, alongside auroras, red tides, rotating flames, ice circles, thunderstorms, mammatus clouds, ice cone clusters and other similar rare phenomena. These are undulating gravity wave cloud formations that form when updrafts reach mountain ranges or occur alongside thunderous rainstorms. Updrafts alter atmospheric vortices, and the fluid dynamic characteristics of the clouds change accordingly. When such effects occur frequently, different changes accumulate along a gradient, giving rise to visible oscillating gravity wave clouds.
