This data file contains five sheets. "Wild Data" and "Wild Data Individual Offspring" contains the lengths of offspring and their mothers after collecting pregnant females from the wild. "Lab Data" and "Lab Data Individual Offspring" contain data from a laboratory breeding experiment, whereby the daughters of wild-caught mothers were raised in different environments to produce four groups of females (Old/Large, Old/Small, Young/Large, Young/Small) to measure the effect of maternal size and age on offspring size and number. The final sheet - "Meta-data" - contains descriptions of the headers used in the four sheets of data.

本数据集文件包含五个工作表。其中“野生数据集（Wild Data）”与“野生子代个体数据集（Wild Data Individual Offspring）”收录了从野外采集怀孕雌性个体后，其子代及其母体的体长数据。“实验室数据集（Lab Data）”与“实验室子代个体数据集（Lab Data Individual Offspring）”则包含实验室繁育实验相关数据：研究人员将野外捕获母体的雌性后代置于不同环境中饲养，构建了四组雌性受试群体（老龄/大体型、老龄/小体型、幼龄/大体型、幼龄/小体型），以此探究母体体型与年龄对子代体型及子代数量的影响。最后一个工作表“元数据集（Meta-data）”则对前述四个数据工作表所用的表头字段进行了说明。
