A cryoconite at Jamtalferner glacier, Austria was studied to detect contaminations with various persistent organic pollutants, namely polychlorobiphenyls, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and organochlorine pesticides,which represent new nutrients in a carbon-poor ecosystem and enable growth of cold-adapted potentially biodegrading bacteria.
