CROPGRIDSv2 - Crop Area

Crop area in CROPGRIDS refers to the estimated spatial extent where a particular crop is grown, measured in square kilometres. It is derived through a data fusion approach that integrates multiple global and national datasets—including land use layers, satellite-based land cover, agro-ecological suitability, and official statistics—to produce harmonized, spatially explicit maps at a global scale. The crop area values are disaggregated by crop type and allocated at subnational resolution, ensuring consistency with national-level official statistics (e.g., FAOSTAT and NSO data) whenever possible
