The electrical grid in the Legal Amazon of Brazil was hand-digitized in ArcGIS by tracing the path of transmission lines detected using 2017 ESRI World Imagery (pixel size varying from 10-30 m resolution, depending on the location). We visually inspected images covering the entire Legal Amazon, starting from publicly available datasets of transmission lines and power generation plants. Once a line was located, it was traced to its origin at a substation or power source. From there, we located and traced other lines that originated at the same source. Since all lines originate at a substation or generation plant, this was an effective way to ensure the entire region was searched. All visible transmission and distribution lines were recorded, regardless of size or voltage, including instances where the lines themselves were visible or only the posts or towers that support the transmission lines were detected. Distribution lines within cities were not typically included, as they were extremely difficult to detect. This dataset is in WGS84.<br>Contact me at jacyhyde@gmail.com with inquiries!
