The invention relates to a method for heating a medium by means of a heating unit with a housing and a heating element arranged therein and with at least one guide element which is arranged concentrically to the heating element， with a discharge line being arranged on the housing as an air outlet for the heated medium. In order to provide a compact， low-wear and efficient heating unit， it is provided that a perforated plate arranged concentrically to the heating element is arranged as a guide element.
