Sources and Mitigation of Bias in Big Data for Transportation Safety (02-026)

Project Description: Researchers interviewed experts in big data concerning their experiences with biases in big data. The research project was called “Sources and Mitigation of Bias in Big Data for Transportation Safety”. Interviews took place between January and April, 2018, via synchronous online chat. This dataset includes de-identified verbatim responses ordered by interview question. The project addressed two research questions: (1) What are the sources of bias in big data for transportation safety planning? (2) What are approaches to mitigating bias in big data for passenger vehicles, transit, bicycling, and pedestrians? Data Scope: This project included a total of ten semi-structured interviews, though not all interviewees responded to each question directly. Data Specification: This file includes all transcript results. There are no attributes or fields.
