Vacant accommodation is an unoccupied dwelling in one of the following cases: — offered for sale, for rent; — already assigned to a buyer or tenant and awaiting occupancy; — pending settlement of succession; — retained by an employer for future use for the benefit of one of its employees; — kept vacant and without precise assignment by the owner (example a very old housing...). The vacancy rate is the share of vacant dwellings in all dwellings. It can be calculated from the population census. Estimates of the park as of January 1 of the three years after the census reference date are also available. They disaggregate this park by categories: main residences, vacant dwellings, second homes or occasional dwellings.
