Discriminative ability of conventional risk factors and addition of MMPs for prediction of chronic kidney disease progression.

aRisk prediction was assessed by the c statistic. Each newer marker was stepwise added to model of conventional risk factors (base model) to assess the c statistic for predicting progression of chronic kidney disease at 8 years. Conventional risk factors included age, sex, smoking status, systolic blood pressure, body mass index, fasting glucose, total cholesterol, and baseline eGFR. bIncrement in the c statistic in the newer marker model versus the base model. The c statistic is corrected for overoptimism by using 100 bootstrap repetitions. cA P value <0.05 indicated that change in c statistic in the newer marker model as compared to the base model is statistically significant.
