Evaluation of organic anion transporters of the White Backed Vulture (Gyps africanus)

The following was designed to ascertain if the organic anionic transporter in the vulture is similar to the chicken. The reason for the study is linked to the environmental toxic effect that diclofenac has had on vulture. In studies thus far, diclofenac toxicity has always been associate with hyperuricemia and gout. It has been suggested that inhibition of the OAT excretory channels may explain why the drug was so toxic.
