Salt and sand — Exhibition
Salt, it comes from more than 10 million-year-old marine deposits. Sand, which was washed from the bottom of Lake Neusiedler to the eastern shore for thousands of years. In the mosaic of the soils of the Seewinkel it is especially the salt and sandy soils, which are among the most exotic habitats in Austria. Here, adapted specialists are at home from salt-tolerant plants to sand-inhabiting insects. In the national park Neusiedler See — Seewinkel, the attention of the area management ment applies to these sensitive areas on the edges of the paints, in the meadows and at the lake damm. With traditional, extensive grazing, endangered animal and plant species are able to ensure the survival of endangered species. Accompanying research provides the appropriate background for the care measures.
