Incorporation of krypton in hydrous minerals

In this project we investigate the structural incorporation of krypton in hydrous minerals using micro X-ray absorption spectroscopy and X-ray fluorescence technique. We study mineral phases doped with few ppm of krypton that have been synthesized at the Laboratoire Magmas et Volcans in Clermont Ferrand. The minerals have dimensions of 100*50*20 micron3. Knowledge of the transport mechanism of noble gases in hydrous minerals is of key importance to reconstruct the recycling history of noble gases and that of water into the mantle.
