Generation Y and baby boomer perceptions of desired political leadership traits in a political organisation in South Africa

This study is based on leadership, and in particular, political leadership in South Africa. The Situational Leadership model, as well as the Leadership Trait theory, form the corner-stones of this study. The research objective of this study is to determine what Generation Y and Baby Boomers perceive as key leadership traits for a future political leader in South Africa. As such, the study asks the following three related questions. What leadership traits does Generation Y deem important for a future political leader in South Africa to possess? What leadership traits does the Baby Boomers deem essential for a future political leader in South Africa to possess? Is there an alignment in terms of these two cohorts’ expectations, or do they vary in their views?
