A deep X-ray study of the starforming region IC348 SSC_44

We propose XMM pointings towards the starforming region IC348. A largenumber of Xray sources have already been found by ROSAT in this cluster.The XMM data will be considerably more sensitive, especially for theyoung objects still embedded in the molecular cloud. XMM will allow us tofind the population of pre main sequence stars with a much higher degreeof completeness than the previous ROSAT observations. Furthermore, we caninvestigate the Xray spectra and the temporal variability of a largenumber of T Tauri stars.
