SeaDronesSee is a large-scale visual object detection and tracking benchmark developed by the Cognitive Systems Group at the University of Tübingen, Germany, focusing on human detection in maritime environments. This dataset comprises over 54,000 frames with a total of 400,000 instances, captured from diverse altitudes and perspectives (ranging from 5 to 260 meters and 0 to 90 degrees), and provides detailed metadata. The dataset was created to bridge the gap between land-based and sea-based visual systems, and is particularly applicable to drone-assisted maritime search and rescue missions. SeaDronesSee supports the development of multimodal systems to improve detection accuracy and speed by providing precise metadata such as altitude, perspective and velocity. In addition, the dataset includes multispectral images that leverage non-visible spectra (e.g., near-infrared and red-edge spectra) to enhance human detection capabilities.
