Nature conservation areas

The dataset contains protected areas and protected individual objects in Norway, including Svalbard and Jan Mayen. Protected areas are first and foremost in order to preserve natural values of national importance. These are values we should preserve for all foreseeable futures, also in terms of nature experience and knowledge of nature. The protected areas are managed by the county governor, the municipality, a national park board or an intermunicipal protection area board. The dataset provides an overview of which areas are protected under the following laws: — the Nature Diversity Act of 2009 — biotope protection pursuant to the Game Act 1981 — the Nature Conservation Act of 1970 — law on conservation of nature of 1954 — law on Jan Mayen of 1930 — the Natural Conservation Act of 1910. In addition, it contains areas protected under the following legislation on Svalbard: — The Svalbard Act of 1925 — The Svalbard Environmental Protection Act of 2002.
