An income gap is a gap in income between one group to another. It is possible to look at the income gap between many groups, such as males and females, urban and rural dwellers, and between people living in different regions of a country. Income gap measures the average income required by the poor in order to get out of poverty (expressed relative to the poverty threshold). Income gap is a measure of depth of poverty. There can be two types of income gap: Absolute income gap Relative income gap.收入差距（income gap）指不同群体间的收入水平差异。可针对多类群体测算收入差距，例如男性与女性群体、城镇与乡村居民，以及一国境内不同地区的居民之间的收入差距。 收入差距可用于测算贫困人口脱离贫困所需的平均收入水平（该数值以贫困线（poverty threshold）为基准进行相对化表达），同时也是衡量贫困深度的指标。 收入差距可分为两类：绝对收入差距与相对收入差距。
