Geological Map of the Canary Islands

Geology is one of the fundamental information that can be available about a territory, since it is the support of the actions that are carried out on it. In addition, it provides substantial information for spatial planning and planning, infrastructure plans and projects, as well as for the assessment of natural hazards and civil protection programmes, among others. On this basis, GRAFCAN carried out, in agreement with the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME), the Continuous Geological Map of the Canary Islands for incorporation into the Territorial Information System. Within this agreement, the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain carried out, through the project “Continuous geological map on a 1:25,000 scale”, the homogenisation of the legends and geological interpretations of each of the islands of the archipelago, adapting it at the same time to the reference system of the basic cartography for the Canary Islands. The realisation of the Geological Map of the Canary Islands 1:25,000 is included in the project to generate thematic maps of environmental content for the Canary Islands territory. It has been intended to carry out a geological mapping that allows a quick and effective consultation of all the information facilitating its incorporation into Geographic Information Systems. The starting information for the realisation of this map has been the geological cartography belonging to the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME). The Topographic Map 1:25,000 and the Orthophoto 1:5,000 have also been used as support products.地质学是区域各项地表活动的承载基础，亦是区域可获取的基础信息之一，可为空间规划、基础设施规划与工程建设、自然灾害风险评估及民防预案制定等诸多领域提供关键支撑。 基于上述背景，GRAFCAN与西班牙地质与矿业研究所（Geological and Mining Institute of Spain, IGME）达成合作协议，启动加那利群岛连续地质图的编制工作，以期将该成果纳入区域信息系统。 根据本次合作协议，西班牙地质与矿业研究所依托"1:25000比例尺连续地质图"项目，对该群岛各岛屿的地图图例与地质解译成果进行统一标准化处理，同时使其适配加那利群岛基础制图的参考坐标系。 1:25000比例尺加那利群岛地质图的编制工作，被纳入加那利群岛区域环境类专题地图生成项目。本次地质制图旨在实现所有地质信息的快速高效查询，便于成果集成至地理信息系统（Geographic Information Systems, GIS）中。 本次地图编制的基础数据源为西班牙地质与矿业研究所（IGME）的原有地质制图成果，同时还采用了1:25000比例尺地形图与1:5000比例尺正射影像图作为辅助支撑资料。
