A diamagnetic oxo-bridged chromium(V) complex, [Cp*Cr(O)(CF3)]2O, has been synthesized through exposure of a hexane solution of Cp*Cr(CO)3(CF3) to air in the presence of light and characterized by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study. DFT calculations have been employed to probe its structure and properties and to provide a comparison between CF3 and CH3 ligands in Cr(V) and Cr(II) analogues.
