In the absence of TKU80 in the micronucleus (germline knockout), cells could grow and mate to produce viable progeny (lacking TKU80 in both nuclei). These progeny cells were subcloned, and their mating types examined after sexual maturation. About 50% of these subclones were selfers—cells within the subclone form mating pairs after starvation. Selfers are rare in the progeny of normal strains (CU427 and CU428). (XLSX)
