The goal of this study was to determine the causal agent of beech leaf disease (BLD) by analyzing the microbial communities present in/on symptomatic leaves and comparing those communities to asymptomatic leaves. We were specifically focusing on nematodes, bacteria, and fungi as potential pathogens and used the 18S, 16S, and ITS libraries, respectively, to screen for such pathogens.
